Bead Crochet Rope Tutorial

I've put this one up on my blogger account, and it's garnered so much interest, that I thought I'd share it through here. Nothing I like better than to pass on the knowledge!

This is one of the best bead crochet tutorials I have ever seen. The pictures make this easy to follow.

I mentioned a few comments down that this is by far the best instructions i've seen for bead crochet. But now I want to branch out to single crochet, and while I understand the idea behind the stitches (adding thread to the hook and pulling through the loops), I wonder if anyone can tell me if the place you put your hook through the existing loops is the same as shown in these pictures (directly under the bead) or if it is worked somewhat different. Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi Julie,
Great tutorial. I've tried bead crochet and the thread always shows. Are my beads too small? Do you know of any patterns to string the beads? I am going to try your tutorial. Thanks, Lorraine

I know you get this a lot, but thank you SO MUCH for this tutorial. I've tried at least 3 other tutorials for bead crochet, and havent been able to figure it out...I was starting to think I'd have to suck up and resort to taking a class to learn this technique (I'm a self-taught beader, everything I know I've figured out based on tutorials online, and I really wanted to learn this on my own too! ). This is so much simpler than I was led to believe in those other tutorials, I think mostly because of your breaking it down to simple simple baby steps and illustrating them. I whipped through a sample of 12 rows of size 6 beads in no time at all, and now I'm starting to string up some 11's to see how that goes. Thanks again! :)

You're most welcome Joy. Just keep at it, especially with the start, it's the fiddlyest part of the rope, but once you've got the first 6 rows, you're laughing! :) good luck!

Thank you Shelbear. You honor me with your compliment. I can't wait to see your creation. I'm sorry I didn't get to this comment sooner. I've been so removed from this site for so long, I hadn't seen it :(

Amethyst, thank you as well!

I learned to crochet as a child (not with beads), by my grandmother's side. Unfortunately, when I got older, my parents and I moved away, and I lost the knack without practice. When I began beading about 2 years ago, I really wanted to learn how to do this, but haven't been able to find a teacher (my beloved grandmother, Nana, has since passed away). I think your tutorial is wonderful, and how kind you are to share this with all of us who want to learn. Truly, sharing things is what I found beaders do best. I think the people who do it are all very generous in spirit. I will be trying this technique, and my first creation with it will be dedicated to you and all beaders like you who love to share what you do.
