Photo Guidelines

On Beader's Showcase we welcome all beading related photos.

These can be submissions of your finished artistic work for our Artist's Showcase Slideshow on the home page, or they can be more general photos of something you are working on, your work area, interesting components or techniques, a bead show, you at a bead show or someone wearing your work and so on. They just need to be relevant and of interest to our members and visitors.

However, all photos submitted must be approved. We do aim to approve as soon as possible.

WE DO NOT PROVIDE REASONS WHY YOUR PHOTO IS NOT APPROVED. It is your responsibility to ensure your photo meets our requirements below.
Artist's Showcase Submissions

Please be aware that if you are submitting a photo of your artistic work for inclusion in our Artist's Showcase slideshow on the home page there are additional requirements that need to be considered.

You should review our Artist's Showcase Photo Requirements page in addition to the  General Photo Requirements here.

General Photo Requirements
  1. You can submit a maximum of three (3) photos per day.
  2. All photos must be related to beading. It can be your work, finished or not, your workshop, someone wearing your work, you attending a bead show, and so on.
  3. The photo must be in focus and clear enough for people to see the detail.
  4. Your photo must have a reasonable title. See the General Photo Titles notes below for unacceptable names and general rules.
  5. You must include a Description and it must not read like a product description for the purpose of sale. See Your Description notes below.
  6. You must include Tags that are relevant to your work. See Tags notes below.
  7. Do not include any promotional material, either in the photo or text. This includes any logos, business names, reference for sale or trade, URLs, prices etc.
  8. You can, and probably should, include in the photo, in a subtle manner in small type, your personal or business copyright statement or signature only (e.g. "Copyright 2013 June Smith", "Copyright 2013 ABC Beading" or  "June Smith"), in the bottom left or right corner only. The name in the copyright statement should be the name of the legal entity that holds copyright. That could be you personally, another person you work with or your business. This is the only time we accept a business name in a photo, as part of a copyright statement.
  9. Do not submit unnecessary duplicate photos of the same subject matter.
Suggestions
  1. If you want to show several photos of something you are working on consider using your blog. Regular posts to your blog are a great way to connect with people and show the progress as you complete your work.
  2. If you want to ask a question about something and need to show a photo, start a discussion in the relevant category on our Forum. You can still include the photo. You are more likely to get an answer there.
Why are the Title, Description and Tags Important?

Mainly because our photo Search function can only search on text such as the title, description and more importantly tags. It can't look into your photo and work out what it is about.

We have thousands of photos and you want to be found, don't you?

Take the time to do this. It is important.

General Photo Titles

For general photos your title can be almost anything relevant, but must not be things like filenames, numbers etc.

Titles that are filenames, business names, dates, product codes etc. are not suitable.

Unacceptable Titles

Your Description

Your description should be informative and interesting. It must not sound like a product description. If it does, it will not be approved.

We prefer that you don't just list the components or it's obvious use. That is boring and basically viewers don't need to be told something they can see with their own eyes. Tell them something that is not obvious.

You could tell them a little about how you made it, or if it is about something like your workshop or a bead show talk about that in some way.

Tags

If you want to be found amongst the many thousands of photos we have on Beader's Showcase you must include tags.

Think about what someone will potentially search on.

What have you created? 'necklace, 'bracelet', 'lampwork', 'box' etc.
What type of work? 'embroidery', 'stringing', 'loom' work etc.
What materials have you used? 'gemstone', 'jade', 'silver' and so on.
Is there a dominate color? 'green', 'red', 'blue' etc

What words or phrases would you search for?
