Welcome to Beader's Showcase, one of the premier websites for artists working with beads, polymer clay, PMC, lampwork and much, much more.

We have artists with skills including stringing, embroidery, weaving, clay work, lampwork, silversmithing and loom work. But it doesn't stop there.

You will be amazed at what our artists can do with some of the most basic materials. Given a few glass beads, some wire, a little material, a feather, a couple of silver or even pewter findings, they will create a masterpiece.

Please enjoy, and if you are an artist come join us.

This is my very first blog. Ever. So, bear with me as I don't really know what I am doing....

Have any of you been like me and forgotten to take photos of your work BEFORE you let it out of your possession?

I am terrible about doing that!

My business partner is forever reminding me to do this, and if she is not here at the time, I forget anyway. I am really bad if it is a special order for someone. A wedding, or something for a special occassion. I get so excited about get the piece to the customer and seeing their reaction to it, that I completely put photographing to the back of my head.

I am trying to come up with a way that I can rein in my enthusiasm until AFTER I get photos! Any Ideas???

Hi Christine! I bought a scanner at WalMart. It is very easy to scan the jewelry as soon as it is finnished. All of my picture here at Beader's Showcase were made on my cheap, $60. scanner. You can see matching Steampunk pieces for the earrings I posted yesterday at Artfire.com/users/sandraoglethorpe. Your dog looks like a nice dog. I have an unfriedly cat. She is the Empress; it is my privilege to serve her.

Thanks again!

Christine,
I keep an empty necklace bust (and my lights) in a little area near my work space, so that when I get finished with a piece, and see the empty bust, I remember to take my photo. I know it sounds wierd, but those empty busts just scream for a piece to wear --so it reminds me. I try to keep up this little area so that I'm not always rearranging lights and digging out stuff to get the photo. If it's already set up (think my own little studio lol), then the job seems easier. I know if I have to get everything set up, it takes me forever to get around to it. If it's ready to go, so am I.

Christine, if taking photos is a challenge, sometimes it's easy to 'forget' them. For me, getting photos taken and posted is part of the excitement - as soon as I get a piece completed, I can't wait to get it photographed, edited and uploaded, to see what kind of feedback I get! It's also an important promotional tool - you may have done something as a special order, and someone else sees it and wants something similar! So, make taking photos as easy as possible - and have a visible 'cue' to remind you that the project isn't finished until the photos are taken!
